While the story is initially what grabs you when you choose a book, isn't it the characters that keep you reading?

In this series, they certainly are.

The second book shows how the relationship between Eve and Roake evolves.
Eve is reluctant and scared of commitment which makes Roarke furious at most times. So you know what he does? Give her a taste of her own medicine. Yes, he's a vicious little smartass but we love him for that ;)

"Today's the day that we start this war
Make up your mind and decide what you are fighting for
You still have so much left to learn about
The decisions you make, be it so hard to break
If you can't make room for raising the stakes
You'll find yourself exposed to the fallout
And in a drawn-out series of undeniable mistakes
The perfect punch to a perfect line"

When things stop working or seem difficult, really all you need to do is take a step back and look at it from a whole new angle.

What is there that you didn’t see before?

It's all about perspective

So that's why Eve takes a step back and tries to see things differently.
And guess what she sees?
That smartass is exactly what she needs, no denying...

Too many voices
Too many noises
Invisible wires keeping us apart.
So many choices,
But they're all disappointments
And they only steal me away from you.

Climb into our own private bubble
Let's get into all kinds of trouble

Slide over here, let your hands feel the way
There's no better method to communicate
Girl, stop your talking
Words just get in the way
I'll be your man

So baby come over
From the end of the sofa
I'll be your man
I'll be your man

So many faces
Staring at their shoelaces
When all anyone wants is to be seen
So tonight let's be honest
We all want to be wanted
And darlin' you've got me wantin' you

Everything that I'm trying to say
Just sounds like a worn out cliche.

Slide over here, let your hands feel the way
There's no better method to communicate
Girl, stop your talking
Words just get in the way
I'll be your man

So baby come over
From the end of the sofa
I'll be your man
I'll be your man

What are we all looking for?
Someone we just can't ignore
It's real love dripping from my heart,
You've got me tripping
What are we all looking for?
Oh....

Slide over here, let your hands feel the way
There's no better method to communicate
Girl, stop your talking
Words just get in the way
I'll be your man

So baby come over
From the end of the sofa
I'll be your man

He knows how to get his way, oh yes, he does ;)

“Hmm. We’ll have others. But there’s one thing.”

“Hmm?” She flexed her fingers, relieved that they seemed to be back in full working order. The MTs knew their stuff.

“I want you to marry me.”

“Uh-huh. Well, we’ll — ” She stopped, nearly stumbled, then gaped at him with her good eye. “You want what?”

“I want you to marry me.”

He had a bruise on his jaw, blood on his coat, and a gleam in his eye. She wondered if he’d lost his mind. “We’re standing here, beat to shit, walking away from a crime scene where either or both of us could have bought it, and you’re asking me to marry you?”

He tucked his arm around her waist again, nudged her forward. “Perfect timing.”"
